Working with me
Time for you ~ wherever you are in the world
In these busy times, I know our schedules need to be flexible to fit around work, travel, family and hobbies. My online practice allows a virtual space for you as often or sporadically as you need, when we connect wherever you find yourself in the world. I have lived and worked in Italy and England, and had clients from all over the USA, South America, UK, Middle East, Northern Europe and India. I specialise in trying to understand the culture and tradition of my clients’ home countries, to relate to their specific past and present, and the future they want to create. Contact me to see how I can help you.
"In the history of human thinking, the most fruitful developments frequently take place at those points where two different lines of thought meet.
These lines may have their roots in quite different parts of human culture, in different times or different cultural environments or different religious traditions..."Werner Heisenberg, Nobel prize-winning physicist
Questions you might have about working with me
-
In our first call or email correspondence, we agree the date and time of our appointment. The day before I will send you a link to the online meeting, where we both log on at the agreed time. All you need is a quiet space to think and speak freely, and a stable internet connection. If you’re happy to do videocalls then a camera in the device you’re using (laptop or phone) should be tested beforehand. We check the audio and visual before we begin, and then have our 50 minute session online. If you prefer to just speak on the telephone, you can let me know in the contact form.
-
I offer 55 minute sessions using Google Meet - sending you the link the morning before our scheduled session.
-
I am in Palermo, Sicily, so in Central European Time zone, which is GMT+1 (an hour ahead of the UK).
-
I generally offer sessions between 9am and 5pm CET Central European Time (8am to 4pm GMT Greenwich Meantime)
-
If you live in the Palermo area or wish to travel here, of course!
If you’re based elsewhere in the world but would like to add some Sicilian sunshine therapy to your psychotherapy, look out for some forthcoming wellbeing retreats we’ll be organising in 2027… -
That’s up to you! Some people like to book several times per week, particularly if they are going through a transition period, grieving someone’s passing, or the end of a relationship or phase of their life. Others prefer to meet once a week or once a fortnight - it depends on your availability and goals. Let me know your preference in the contact form.

You're welcome to contact me between sessions about practical matters such as arranging or changing appointments.
I don't usually offer therapeutic support by email, text or phone between sessions, as the therapy takes place during our scheduled appointments. Keeping our work within the therapy session helps provide a consistent, confidential and focused space for us to explore whatever you're bringing.
If something important comes up between sessions, it’s a good idea to make a note of it so we can discuss it when we next meet.
-
If you’re able to let me know with more than 48 hours’ notice, we can reschedule the session at a mutually convenient time. Unfortunately if it’s less than 48 hours’ notice, or you don’t attend a session without advising, payment will still be required as I may be unable to offer that slot to another client.
In the unlikely event that I have an emergency that means I can’t attend, I will let you know and reschedule as soon as possible. -
Generally, I don't work therapeutically with close family members of existing clients. This helps protect your privacy, maintain clear professional boundaries, and avoid conflicts of interest.
In some cases, I may be able to work with a friend of a current client, provided there's no close connection that could affect either person's therapy. I consider each situation carefully before deciding whether it's appropriate.
If I don't think it's in everyone's best interests, I'll explain why and, where possible, recommend another therapist.

Progress in therapy isn't always obvious, and it isn't always linear. Sometimes you feel better quickly; other times things may feel more difficult before they improve as you begin to work through challenging experiences.
Some signs that therapy is helping include:
Your mood or emotional wellbeing improves.
You notice changes in the way you think about yourself or your experiences.
You respond differently in situations that used to be difficult.
Your relationships become healthier or feel easier to navigate.
You feel more satisfied with your life or more connected to what's important to you.
You have more energy or feel more able to cope with everyday life.
Your symptoms become less intense, less frequent, or have less impact on your daily life.
You feel understood by your therapist and able to talk openly in sessions.
What progress looks like with EMDR:
Progress in EMDR is happening when your SUDS (Subjective Units of Distress Scale) number drops.
For example, if a memory that started at an 8 feels like a 3 by the end of the session, something has shifted. Over multiple sessions, memories that once felt unbearable gradually lose their charge — they become just memories, rather than experiences that feel like they are still happening now.
A simple way to think about it:
Imagine a fire alarm going off in an empty room. The alarm is real, but there is no fire anymore. EMDR helps your brain finally hear the silence and stop sounding the alarm. Your SUDS number is simply how loud the alarm still feels.
Other signs of progress beyond the number:
The memory feels more distant, like it belongs to the past
Your body feels less activated when you think about it
You start to believe something different about yourself in relation to what happened
Sleep improves
You react differently in situations that used to trigger youThe
Please be mindful that progress looks different for everyone, so we'll regularly review how therapy is going and whether it's helping you move towards the goals that matter to you.

With me you can expect
Confidential, non judgemental space
When we meet it’s time for you to be fully yourself, and for anything you bring to the therapeutic space to be held in complete trust and confidence. I believe that love, understanding, validation are like vitamins for the brain and the body.
Go at your own pace, supported at every step
Everyone’s journey is different, and there is no protocol or timeframe that fits every person and their specific history, their unique struggles and desires. You won’t be rushed or pushed to explore anything you’re not ready to bring to the therapeutic space.
Regular review of your goals & progress
You may come with a specific issue or incident or behaviour pattern that you want to look at; or you may be seeking more empowerment in a particular area of your life. Together we can set meaningful goals and move towards them.
